Paul Scharner's decision to return to the international stage this season raises the very real prospect of Latics' line-up ALL being full internationals – for the first time in the club's history.
While Steve Bruce has plenty of options within his squad, many pundits and fans would agree on a first-choice starting 11 for the forthcoming campaign. And each one of those players has represented their country and is currently available for international selection.

Chris Kirkland, 27, has one cap for England, but is likely to become a regular within Fabio Capello's squad.
Skipper Mario Melchiot, 31, has made 20 appearances for Holland and emergency left-back Kevin Kilbane, 31, will prolong his 11-year career with the Republic of Ireland.

If Kilbane moved into midfield, Swede Erik Edman, 29, or the soon to be on-loan Maynor Figueroa – both full-internationals – would step in.
Figueroa, 25, is a regular with Honduras with 53 caps, while the currently injured Edman has 53 caps for his country.

Scharner, 28, has vowed to play for Austria again this season, two years after originally quitting. His chances of a recall have been given a boost after the departure of coach Josef Hickersberger.

And his centre-back partner Emmerson Boyce has recently taken up the chance to play for Barbados, having qualified for selection through his parents. Wigan's midfield will also be packed with internationals. Antonio Valencia has 29 caps for Ecuador and Wilson Palacios 52 caps for Honduras.

New £3.25m signing Olivier Kapo, 27, has played nine times for France and Jason Koumas, 28, has pulled on the Wales shirt on 30 occasions.
Michael Brown will also contest a spot in central midfield – although he has only played for England U21s.

Up front Emile Heskey has 45 caps for England and new boy Amr Zaki is a regular with Egypt, having turned out 48 times.
Ryan Taylor, Titus Bramble, Dutchman Daniel De Ridder and French striker Antoine Sibierski have played for their countries' second string sides.

Sheffield United target David Cotterill is a Wales international, while Hull-bound Marlon King plays for Jamaica.
Only keeper Mike Pollitt hasn't played any internationals at any level.

This is all very well - BUT - What happens IF all these players are called up to play for their respective countries at the same time? Wigan Athletic will be for all intents and purposes without any premiership class players. Sorry to put a wet flannel on the story.

The game is postponed until the players return from international duty.
