Emmerson Boyce says Latics are out to prove a point on Sunday.
Wigan kick off their home fixtures against Premier League leaders Chelsea, who are coming off the back of a 4-0 victory over Portsmouth.
And after last Saturday's defeat to West Ham, Steve Bruce's men are determined to hit back.

Boyce told the Reporter: "You want to play against these big teams to prove a point. If we get a draw people will say we've done well. If we don't get anything then nothing will be lost.
"They are a quality team with a lot of fire power. But we want to test ourselves against the best players.

"We held Chelsea at their place last season and it went a long way in keeping us in the division.
"We played well and frustrated them. Everything went to plan.
"We showed how we could play in the second half at West Ham. In the first half we made them look like world beaters.

"We just didn't turn up early doors at Upton Park. But after that we can take a lot of heart out of our performance.
"We've got to learn from that and move on."
And Boyce, 28, says home form will be vital this season.

"If we have good results at home we can definitely stay in this division," he says. "It's proved that over the years.
"The bad pitch benefited us last year when the it wasn't as good because teams didn't look forward to coming here.

"The pitch is looking a lot better now and we're looking forward to playing on it."
Boyce believes Latics now have a lethal weapon leading the line, who will have a major impact.

Striker Amr Zaki, 25, has hit three goals in as many appearances since his loan move from Zamalek.
"He knows where the goal is," said Boyce. "He's got three goals in as many games for us. He's confident and the chances are falling to him.
