Emmerson Boyce believes he is close to agreeing an extended contract with Latics.
The defender has been negotiating new terms over the summer and hopes to come to a successful conclusion when the squad returns from their
Austrian training camp.
Boyce is excited about Latics' chances this season, fuelled by Steve Bruce's activity in the transfer market.

After securing the services of Daniel de Ridder, Olivier Kapo and Amr Zaki, a deal was struck with Middlesbrough last night for tough-tackling midfielder Lee Cattermole.
Latics have had a bid of around £3.5m accepted by Boro, and he is due to complete the move to the JJB Stadium early next week.

The 20-year-old is expected to have a medical in the next few days before holding talks over personal terms.
As well as wheeling and dealing, Bruce has also been keen to secure the futures of some existing members of the squad.

Boyce is one of those in negotiations despite having
another two years left to run on the contract he signed when he joined from Crystal Palace in August 2006.
His partner in the centre of defence Paul Scharner is another locked in talks, and Latics are optimistic of striking a deal with him too.

Speaking exclusively to the Evening Post from Wigan's mountainside training base in Bad Bleiberg, Boyce said: "Hopefully we can get
everything sorted out sooner rather than later.
"We are close. Maybe we can get it done when we come back from Austria, certainly before the season starts.

"I have two years left on this contract but it's nice to start negotiating early so that I know where my future is.
"It has been a two-way thing – the club approached me about a new contract as a reward for the way I have been performing.

"And I was only too happy to negotiate an improved deal because I want to help this club move forward.
"We finished last season strongly and the aim this time has to be to push further up the table and finish as high as we can.
"Wigan finished 10th in their first season in the Premier League but we struggled to match that in the following two seasons.
"With Steve Bruce here from the word go this time, I really think we have a chance of going higher."
