A Wigan man was hit with a hefty financial penalty after admitting to possessing cocaine.

Christopher Birchall, 30, of Crossdale Road, Hindley, stood in the dock before Wigan and Leigh justices to plead guilty to having the class A drug in contravention of the Drugs Misuse Act of 1971 when he was in Leigh on Sunday May 22.

A fine, combined with costs and a victim services surcharge mean he has to fork out £569.

The cocaine itself was forfeited for destruction.
